The Penn State Sailing Club is a unique co-ed club dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing, as well as offering students a social environment of friendly people who have common interests. The Club encourages sailors of all abilities, from novice sailors to competitive racers. If you've never sailed before we'll teach you. If you've sailed your whole life, come and teach us some tricks. We participate in a full time racing schedule. Penn State is a member of MAISA (Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association), in which we travel all over the north east to places like New York, New Jersey and Maryland to compete against some of the top college sailors today. Most of the boats that we race are Flying Juniors or 420's, but we also race Standard Lasers, J-24's and Navy 44's.

Leisure sailing is also a great way to meet people. On the weekends we go out to Prince Gallitzin State Park where we have eight Flying Juniors to use for practices and for a great day of relaxing on a sail boat. Every level and every person can participate in some way with the club. It is what you make it!

And regarding the history of our club: Twenty years ago a sailing team flourished at Penn State. The nationally ranked team was comprised of 80 members who were known throughout the sailing community. With enthusiasm on a decline, the team shut down for several years. In the early 90's a group of dedicated sailors revived the Penn State sailing tradition. Through hard work and a commitment to the sport, a new era emerged. By 1993 the club had established a full time racing schedule for both fall and spring.

Now the sailing club of Penn State is again striving for its former greatness. With a "new" (to us) fleet of boats and a an ever growing membership, the Penn State Sailing Club is far from the endangerment that was once its fate. Rather with every year that passes, the club grows in ability, professionalism, and dedication to the sport and leisure of sailing.

So how do you become a member of the club? Easy: show up to our next meeting (you can find out when and where that is by going back to the home page). At the end of the meeting, see an officer, and they'll get you signed up. Or, email the club secretary (see the Officers Page for contact info). All PSU students, full or part time, as well as faculty and staff are welcome.

We sail at Lake Glendale in Prince Gallitzin State Park. For directions from State College to our sailing site, see the Lake Glendale Page.
